Everyone feels different about it, it depends really. My mum likes cats as pets but not dogs but likes dogs as an animal. I have both cat and dog, love a cats independance but nice to have a dog as it depends on you.

Our dog loves attention, he always wants something to do. I can understand how it can be annoying if you want to be left alone though but dogs are cool.

There is a difference between an animal lover and a pet lover.

Personally i think the need to own a pet is an indication of a deeper need and signifies something lacking in one's life.

:$ OOOOH deep thinking there Jizz. Maybe you're right: a need for company & to receive unconditional affection? A need to control?
But maybe, alternatively, a need to give love & affection to someone vulnerable.
Or purely the generosity of heart to give a home to the homeless. :$

I always keep my dog under contrrol when I have visitors but if you can't tolerate the fact that she is freindly and will want to say hello then don't come, if you really dislike dogs that much I would prefer you not to come.

I don't think this is necessarily true, although I understand where you are coming from. Those people who seem to 'collect' animals certainly do seem to have something 'lacking' somewhere!

I have always had pets though, and don't have anything lacking in my life ... having said that I don't go around collecting every stray dog, cat or rabbit that looks at me with it's sad eyes ....

I wonder how on earth you have doggie loving friends

WOOF WOOF

i Think most dogs are nicer than some of the humans I know they are loyal loving and dont answer back and even like those of us who dont like them - maybe there is a lesson there

I love my dog to bits and she is a big part of our family everybody loves her as she is friendly, I dread the day when we wont have her as she is nearly 13. we did have a problem with her bouncing up and down as a puppy but with proper training" but I would never allow her on furniture or upstairs. We used to laugh when our boys were little as my husband was top dog then me my eldest then it was a squabble between my youngest and Molly who came next

Who ever said cats are clean yuk
I recently went into a restaurant where they had a cat which walked over the tables, we walked out.
I had a bad case of cat flea bites from a neighbour's cat who used to come into my Mother's garden and they are supposed to pounce on any warm blooded animal or human who passes yuk.
Then I had a shop were a ferile cat would come being an animal lover though cats have never come high in my list I felt sorry for this moth eaten thing and put out a saucer of milk each day. Big mistake as this cat was sick in the middle of my shop with mouse parts even brought a live one in yuk yuk yuk then one day I heard this loud scratching noise and a sound like a something hissing and a loud meowing when I went to look this cat was dragging a live R A T into my shop, That wsa the last straw Cats being clean do me a favour they are dirty things

If a dog jumps up at me, i find the best way to deal with it is to bring the knee up sharply into its chest.

. . . . And for the pathetic 'My dog won't hurt you' from the dog owner, something like 'Maybe, but have you considered I might hurt your dog....'

I agree with you there winnie, dogs with muddy paws jumping up at you, 'awww, he's just saying hello!'

*errr*

I have cats, altogether much cleaner and independent animals! ^_^

Oh dear, I have a dog now, haha, well if he jumps at people he's only saying hello *lol*
Well if you will go walking in well known dog walking places where they are allowed off the lead then what do you expect, go somewhere where dogs aren't allowed!!!

I love lassie tv series but in reality I'm a bit scared of dogs.

When I was a kid, a very small fat dog got me cornered and barking at me. I just froze in terror. Didn't help that 2 window cleaners were pissing themselves laughing at my predicament. Oh the shame!

i agree with that sorry no offence anyone but what other reason can be to sleep with pets ( if you have partner would you?!?)and allow licking them infront of your friends or even strangers.
i dont have any pets but i can tolerate their presence.
