I was born originally in the land of the fatty German women and have been living in the UK for several decades. It has been no problem blending in here with the same colour passport and my flubber, well maintained with fish & chips and not too much of "the greens".

Since the times are hard today oh boy you need a bit of extra upholstery to see you through!

Below are extracts from http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-15901351

(And in fairness it does also show that men aren't far behind)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The UK has more obese women than any other country in Europe, according to European Union figures.
Data agency Eurostat, which looked at 19 countries, found nearly a quarter of UK women - 23.9% - were recorded as being obese in the year 2008 to 2009.
Just over 22% of UK men were classed as obese, coming second only to Malta.
The UK's high levels of obesity are in stark contrast to those in countries such as Romania, where just 8% of women were classed as obese along with 7.6% of men.
Obesity levels were also found to be low in Italy, Bulgaria and France.
A person is defined as obese if their body mass index (BMI), the result of a calculation involving weight and height, is above a certain level.
The BMI correlates fairly well with body fat.
A BMI of less than 18.5 is underweight
A BMI of 18.5-25 is ideal
A BMI of 25-30 is overweight
A score of 30 or above is obese
HOW TO WORK OUT YOUR BMI:
Work out your height in metres and multiply the figure by itself
Measure your weight in kilograms
Divide the weight by the height squared
For example, if you are 1.6m (5ft 3in) tall and weigh 65kg (10st 3lb), the calculation would then be: 65 ÷ (1.6 x 1.6 = 2.56) = 25.39
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I would also suggest that if the maths is just a little too complicated, merely looking down, or asking a 'friend' should do the trick. . . .And it's reassuring to know we still lead Europe in some areas!

IT is indeed a scary thought that BRITISH women are so fat?..maybe ? And men indeed are of a large size too! Maybe this is the new look? i.e. It's cool to be large? any suggestions?

Women put on fat more easily than men due to the differences in the way they are made; men's greater muscularity allows them to burn calories more readily. However, I think people in general have less time to look after themselves, as they are so busy with careers, kids, partners etc. Assuming someone is physically able to excercise, I think they should take the time to do so, as well as eat healthily. Is a partner more likely to stray if their other half has let themselves go? An unequivocal yes I'm afraid; especially men, as we are shallow creatures who lay more emphasis on physical appearence than women. (some guys like larger women,accepted)

Not sure if that was the input you were looking for Mole, but there it is

:( Oh Octavian, how some of us unfortunate women who do not over-eat nor under-exercise but still seem to gain the extra padding would love to return to historic days when big = attractive. How I despise this term of 'letting oneself go' - that is NOT always the case!!!

Isn't it a weird state when women are so lambasted by the media not only with with slimness equating to perfection but also with being health-conscious that we British have this problem with overweight??? *errr*

I was more inclined to think it was the food intake they comsured rather than time ? I also feel that some women in the catorgery you say i,e no time to look after them selves could put in some time to eat proper and excersise perhaps? general view i may add

There are plenty of men out there that appreciate a woman with 'more bounce to the ounce'! I think it is inexcusable for anyone to cheat on their partner for reasons such as body shape, after all, love is meant to be unconditional.

Is a lady more likely to stray if their other half behaves like a shallow twat? An unequivocal hell yeah I'm afraid!

So, GirlAboutTown, "love is meant to be unconditional" unless the male partner "behaves like a shallow twat", and then the woman is justified in being a slapper???

Hahahahaha

If your partner behaves like a shallow twat, then clearly he doesn't love you so why waste your love on him? Simples.

Do people really fall out of love because a partner puts on weight?

By the time people of either gender become obese ('overactive glands?' no... overactive JAWS!) they have possibly already given up on life in other areas (including self-respect), and the blubber is merely a cover for far deeper issues.
Just as beauty comes from within so does unattractiveness.

The objects of men's fantasies may be slim creatures, just as the objects of women's fantasies are whatever they are, but most people do manage to keep some semblance of a grip on reality in partnerships.

The degree of truth in the generalization that men chase slim bodies is possibly no more (or no less) than the degree of truth in the generalization that women chase fat wallets.
