For what it's worth Joss, T**T was a bad swear word in England too.... it's only become acceptable because standards have dropped lower here.
(But i'm sure thinking of him as one wouldn't possibly be reflected in your attitude towards him) |

I think the food providing giants (sorry not another pun) are hugely (ooops) to blame for this culture trend of stuffing faces. |

I have just been reading this thread, and wondered if any of you saw the Horizon programme.
A doctor on the programme was looking into the 'fat' dilemma, and some really interesting results from obese people who have had a gastric band fitted, also discovered that the relentless hunger pangs they had also dissapated. They discovered new hormones that govern the bodies ability to know when one is really hungry and full, apparently the scientists think that some obese people somehow have a defect in these hormones, and so they always have a feeling that they are hungry, and no matter how much they eat, they never have the feeling of being full. BMI figures are not always that reliable, I had a Dexer scan, (which is very accurate and shows where all the fat is), I think thats what it was called, this was part of a Fenland study, so everyone in the area was weighed, measured and asked questions on lifestyle, how much exercise, what food you eat etc, and given a scan which is like a full MRI scan, I am a Gynoid (no thats not something out of Star Trek), meaning I put my weight on hips and thighs, some people are Android, they put weight around the middle and top half. They also look to see if one has fat around the organs, which of course is really dangerous to your health, Gynoids seem to be the 'healthier in terms of this, because fat is on lower half, but actually have more difficulty losing weight in general, apparently its easier to shift it, if its around middle and top half, like the Android shape Women are supposed to be curvier, because of child bearing and men have more muscle because they are the hunters and providers, we are still animals basically in a modern world, where everything is in easy reach, the good and the bad, but we also have a choice Fashions change, and we all have personal preferences, and now hormones and genetics are playing a part, which actually sounds like good ole common sense to me Wouldnt it be a dull world if we all looked the same? |

That is very interesting Lace, wish I had seen the programme, but thanks for the information.
Yes it would be a dull world if we looked the same (all men looking like women or vice versa - lol) - I know what you mean! |

Given that it takes approximately 3,500 excess calories to put on a single pound of weight, it takes a hell of a lot of calories (i'll let you do the maths)to end up 10 stone or more overweight, as so many do.
It may well be true that there's a gene which doesn't let people know they've eaten enough, but does it override knowledge and commonsense when we KNOW the calorific intake required to maintain a healthy weight? If you need to munch then munch a carrot, not a burger!! ...And if the gastric band works and also 'takes away the hunger pangs', has it strangled the gene? An old saying goes 'Inside every fat person, there's a thin person trying to get out'. Jeez, some of these people must be sets of Russian dolls.... |

It's personality that matters not a person's size.

Its funny how certain subjects can run and run,i suppose it depends on who puts them up.
I am glad that everybody seems happy, with the title of this thread, perhaps it could have been worded a bit kinder. Thanks for your words of wisdom jizzy biscuit, you always have something of interest to say. |

I have just read all of the comments and i belive it is one subject that no one is going to agree on, why people are the size they are and why they eat the "wrong" foods, all i know is i eat the "right" foods stay in my calorie intake for a woman of my age and i go to the gym 4 mornings a week and also do aqua fitness 2 nights a week and i am still a PLUS size lady, but i am happy to be, i'm fit, heathly and loving live

Isn't that much the same as liking people because they're slim, and merely serving to subjectivize the person?
Some topics do run and run but isn't that more to do with the number of replies generated by the interest aroused in the topic, than with the person behind the original posting? I don't pretend to have done an in-depth analysis but it would appear that some posters who may have had a lengthy forum on one occasion have also had a very short forum on another. |
