I've been interested....no, more like obsessed
We are both members of the National Trust too and enjoy visiting old houses, gardens, woodlands etc - just being outdoors is SO relaxing for us both. Are there any other members of this site who enjoy birdwatching/wildife/nature? I cannot be the only one out there surely? |

I don't know if this is the same thing but I have squirrels and wood pigeons in my garden,if the latter get any fatter you could pass them off as a small chicken!
the Squirrels are the same! Maybe I put too much food out for them.!!!! |

Hi Gilly, well although i live in kinda a built up area and been there for 10 years now i have witnessed on 2 occasions a buzzard in the garden. The second time it was swallowing what looked like a sparrow which was wicked to see. I know there are buzzards in the woods about 2/3 miles away so i know it was one. Oh by the way i'm a train fan too lol! Not to mention you cant get enuff out and about days if you ask me and its nice to see nature at its best. Take care

Yes there is someone else out there who loves birds and all things natural. Have been a bird watcher for the last 30 years and spend too much money feeding them all through the year but its worth it in the end. I am lucky to have a river at the bottom of the garden(not one that floods me thankfully)and can watch the Heron when it flies in to feed on the eels that swim about in it.

I love nature and all that she has to offer. I think I've become a bit of a bird watcher myself and quite often spend hours watching the birds in my garden. The other day we had 6 parakeets sitting in the tree, quite weird as we are so close to London.
Roll on spring so I can start getting out and about again. |

I second that.
I've recently hung up a "minibar for birds" from the washing line offering a selection of bags stuffed with nuts, seeds or bits embedded into fat. Birds love it. This morning I spotted a sporty squirrel having a feast whilst balancing adeptly on the top of the line, dipping its tail as a balancing tool and munching away on peanuts. How talented is that?! |

We have a resident squirrel, he has so far broken 2 birdfeeders, he's so cute though and I havent got the heart to chase him away. Did you ever see the Carling advert with the squirrel - hilarious !

I am a bird lover. I had a sparrow hawk land in the front garden with a live pigeon, I got some good pictures.
I have a woodpecker and jay that come to the feeders so I make sure there is squirral food on the table then they leave the hanging feeders alone |

Bird watchers may be interested in this website http://www.collinsbirds.com/ where Collins, the publisher of bird field-guides, has launched a social networking website to let birdwatchers communicate.
The site provides information on birds, a facility to report sightings of birds and place them on a map, set up alterts of sightings, comment on other sightings and upload pictures. There are plans to introduce print-on-demand customised field guides. |

Not only are there loads of us nature-lovers out there, Suzanne, but I've spent several years trying to instill similar to our next generation. Each year I've involved my class of 7yr olds in the Big Garden Bird Watch. They make bird-feeders & get involved with loads of written & art work all week. I can only hope they retain their bird-spotting knowledge when they leave me!! Thanks for the tip about the Collins web-site!

I visit a nature reserve three times a week, here in Essex, always have my binoculars round my neck, looking for birds and any wildlife. I love the outdoors away from the crowds.
