HI everyone. I just thought i should let you know. I had a email sent to me the other day on fff from a guy apparently called george! his subject box was entitled- 'hey georgous contact me' which was written in huge capitals!! when i read it he started quoting how much he believed we were brought together right here and now by this website and that it was more than love he felt for me!! have to admit i new it was rubbish as i never even knew this guy!!
He left me is email and asked me to contact him then i believe he must have deleted his account on here as his name in the email box where you can see the name of your email sender said 'no longer a member'
Just wondered if anyone else recieved this email the other day before 'george' decided to dissappear!! lmfao

Oh yes, I remember George. He was a scammer and he was removed as soon as he showed up on the admin panel as having joined and sent 10 messages within the first couple of minutes - always a sign that this is an unwelcome new member cutting and pasting in an internet cafe in Nigeria.

I admit it is confusing many to receive this overblown language from someone who is called "NoLongerAMember". I guess we need to find a way to programme people removed for scammy reasons as "RemovedByAdmin" or something like that so that everyone knows this was mass mailed by an unwelcome joiner who has been chucked out. I have to put my thinking cap on how to make these cases clearer to interpret for users and also welcome suggestions from everyone.

The above copy of Nelly Johnson comes with the following Profile.
I'd like you to study it. At first glance it appears to be from a young woman in Aberdeen, but it is not.

Nellylove: Age 21, UK, London South West, England
Home Town: UK
Postcode: AB30
Location: London South West, England
Age: 21
Gender: Female

I Am A Nice Looking Girl Seeking For A Nice Man To Marry A Man Who Will Love Me And Care For Me

==============================================================================

Some tell-tale characteristics are:
a name that promises love
a young woman from Britain
a normal looking post code but when you are from Ghana you don't know that AB is Aberdeen which is not London
a biography which is slightly un-English
a hotch potch of hobbies, making for a 21 year old with an unusual combination of hobbies: bridge, gardening, accordeon, horn, trombone... in fact exactly 3 in each category!

Scammers have learnt that you cannot write any more that you are from Nigeria and want to find someone who will sponsor you through college, because that would get them deleted straight away. They blend in so they can stay on the site and mailshot as many as they can. In their mailshot they usually list an email address to contact directly, so they can move outside the website quickly.

here is a fine example of the traditional style of scamming letters. We should read it in the knowledge that this form of approach is dying out. There won't be many more where someone is the only surviving daughter of an extremely rich man of oil. This scammer is likely to be a beginner!

Here's a nice traditional one, beautifully written; there aren't too many of these versions going around these days, so enjoy it:

Yesterday, late morning I received an email that was meant to look like a real email from notification from Lloyds TSB. However, there was something about it that wasn't right. I forwarded it to the fraud team and heard back from them late last night that its was a fraudulent email and that if I'd followed the link that it asked me to I could have lost money from my account. Lloyds have said that they will track down the site the email came from and will get it taken down. So just be careful if such an email lands in your inbox. It was saying that Lloyds TSB had upgraded security and I needed to 'click here' immediately, to stop my account being locked. As I say my instincts were right and its been found to be fraudulent. I've never received one of these before so thought that I should let everyone know that this email could be doing the rounds. I was also advised to do a full security sweep of my computer, which I have done. *wave*
