When Fishing For A Friend was developed, we set out to create a friendly and safe site and consulted the Data Protection Registrar right at the beginning. The result is a website which asks you only for a few identifying details about yourself:
What We Do Not Do
- We do not ask you for your real name
- We do not know your complete address
- We only make the first half of your postcode visible on your profile to identify your whereabouts and to allow you to find friends in your home area
- As the use of the site is free, we also do not ask you for any credit card details and other financial data
- We also do not send promotional materials to you
- We hate spam, we're pretty sure you hate spam, and we will not contribute towards this practice
What We Do
When we ask you to do is to fill in our Quick Registration Form the only identifying detail we ask you for is your email address. We need this to keep in touch with you and to let you know when you've got mail on the site. We promise you, your email address is only used for communication between you and the site. No third party will ever see, copy, rent or buy your email address.
We also ask you for your post code, but we do not display more than the first half of it on your profile. If you choose to enter the complete postcode it will be better for our system to match you with other members according to your location.
When you log out, we ask you to Recommend A Friend. Once a message to a friend is sent to recommend this site, they will never hear from us again... unless they join themselves, of course.
There is an area in Fishing For A Friend that is a different 'kettle of fish' (forgive the pun). You find it in the Clubhouse, and it is where you can advertise classified ads. This is an advertising facility that has been designed for people who want to show their contact details and this is why email addresses and telephone numbers are displayed.
Should you decide to leave and delete your details from this site, then your deletion results in the immediate and complete removal of your contact details, personal profile and your mail received and sent in your personal user area called MyCorner. We are unable to delete contributions that you have made to the forums, as this would completely destroy threads contributed by the entire online community. To protect your privacy we attribute all entries made previously by you to the name 'No Longer A Member'.
What facilitates our computer talking to yours is a cookie, which is a small amount of data that our computer sends to your computer, and with that it is making your life easier: it identifies your machine, which browser it uses and that you have returned to our web pages. If you are totally unhappy about cookies in general, you can configure your browser to reject them partially or completely, although you may find that this affects your comfortable use of FishingForAFriend.com and other sites, too.
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, you may also want to read our terms and conditions or send us a note.
